Every story begins with a question. For me, it’s usually something like: “What would push an ordinary person to cross the line?”

Welcome, and thank you for visiting my corner of the web. I’m Peter S Giles, and I'm an author of psychological crime thrillers that explore the dark edges of human nature. My stories are not just about the crime itself, of course, but also about the people who live in its shadow. The ones who make impossible choices, keep impossible secrets, and must then live with the consequences.

My debut novel, A Ledger for the Dead, follows Jason Mercier as he tries to rebuild his life after betrayal and loss. Only to find himself caught in a web of corruption that reaches further than he could ever imagine. It’s a story about guilt, loyalty, and the quiet price of survival.

In this blog, I’ll be sharing insights into the writing process, reflections on what draws us to mystery and suspense, and glimpses into the worlds of my upcoming books: Murder from the Skies and The Eyes Say Help. Plus a little bit of background into how I've been in the murder business for over twenty years.

Whether you’re a reader who loves a good twist, a writer curious about the craft, or someone fascinated by the psychology behind crime fiction, you’ll find something here.

So, grab a coffee, settle in, and join me on this journey into the shadows — where truth is rarely simple, and every secret comes with a cost.

Because in every crime story, it’s not just about who did it… it’s about why.
